UNDERSTANDING SHAKESPEARE

5 ONLINE COURSES BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH AT 5PM PT

Are you a Shakespeare person? Do you want to be one? Do you struggle to feel like you “get it” when it comes to The Bard?
This five week workshop is geared toward giving you the tools and concepts needed to read and understand the work of William Shakespeare. We will focus on three main components – verse, antithesis, argument – of Shakespeare’s work that will help you to unlock the meaning behind the words, giving you the confidence you need to read and enjoy these plays. The class will revolve around in-depth analysis of scenes and monologues from two of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays; Twelfth Night and Othello.

In order to successfully capture the full nature of the concepts taught in this course, this class will rely heavily on your participation. Think of this class as a hybrid seminar meets workshop. There will be plenty of time to put the ideas to use together with classmates and on your own.

You can purchase this course with or without copies of the books. The ‘With Books’ option includes both plays required with 30% off thanks to LA based bookstore, Reparations Club. Shipping is included. All book purchases are nonrefundable.

If you purchase through the course you will receive Pelican Shakespeare editions of both plays. If you choose not to purchase you do not need to get the same editions, a diversity of editions is welcome and encouraged as the notes will vary and add depth to our conversations.
